AMPUS VILLAGE

At 50 kilometers from Esterel Caravaning you’ll find Ampus village, it jealously conserves its numerous traces from the past, medieval and roman. It’s full of charming little back streets that wind around the village enabling its visitors to discover its fountains and small shaded squares.

The village’s traditional little houses with pretty porches and its passage running around the Saint Michel church are of interest too. Halfway between the coast and the Verdon Gorges, Ampus has always been the crossroads to the sea and the mountains. Its name comes from elsewhere in Latin “Emporium” a term used for selling, a market place, in roman times Ampus was one of the largest market places in the region, even today the Ampus village is known for its local produce: truffles, wild mushrooms, goat’s cheese, olives and lavender honey, enough to delight the taste buds of all its visitors.

For a journey through history and to enjoy all the flavours of the south, Ampus is without question a place not to miss.
