WHAT TO SEE AND DO IN MONTFERRAT
From your camp site Esterel Caravaning it will take around less than 1 hour to get to the village of Montferrat. When leaving Esterel Caravaning turn right direction Frejus – Saint Raphael. Once at Frejus take the motorway A8 direction Draguignan. Exit at Le Muy, you need to cross the Le Muy village and Draguignan before arriving at Montferrat.
At around 50 kilometres from Esterel Caravaning on the road to Verdon and its Gorges you’ll find the village Montferrat. Embedded in an arena of green hills, Montferrat was built on an iron mine (fer) that’s how it got its name in 1135 (De monte ferrato).
Overlooked by its chapel Beauvoir the village has numerous remains from its past a pretty fountain for example dating from 1751. Around the village you’ll find the “gouffre de pierreport” a superb natural water spring, its Oratories that lead to the Chapel and the Castles ruins are to discover.
Montferrat also has another particularity: its military camp Canjuers is one of the largest in Europe however this military presence does nothing to mare the countryside they’ve preserved the natural wild dessert like spaces with its savage Far West Provencal allure.
