Bagnols-en-Forêt

Bagnols en forêt is a small village situated 18 kilometres from Frejus and 24 kilometres from Esterel Caravaning, at the foot of the Massif of the Esterel. The village Bagnols en forêt wears its name well as it’s surrounded by 4290 hectares of forest. Perched at 3OO metres altitude Bagnols en forêt attracts all lovers of peace and tranquillity all throughout the year.

This calm ambiance comes after a not so calm history, the village was in fact an old roman refuge used at the time when the climate at Frejus was hostile and covered by wet lands. Bagnols en forêt was later pillaged and its people banished for over 80 years.

The village had to wait until 1477 to be rein-habited by 30 or so families, an initiative to urbanise the surrounding areas taken by the church in Frejus, certain descendants of these family pioneers still live in Bagnols en Forêt. Like all the villages in the Var the temperatures can be extreme in summer reaching 40°c.

The main place is shaded by its old trees and has many bars and restaurants with terraces for you to enjoy at Bagnols en forêt.
