Located in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, Sainte-Maxime is a little jewel nestled between the Maure Mountains, Préconil River and the Mediterranean, sheltered from the Mistral winds. More family-friendly than Saint-Tropez, which it faces, it’s an ideal town for a holiday that’s both relaxing and active.
To get the most out of this Provençal town in the Var (Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region), which borders Saint-Tropez, explore it on foot. Stroll through the colourful streets of the town centre, past the Tour Carrée and the church of Sainte-Maxime, built in the 18thcentury.
Then walk along the 11kilometres of coastline, shaded by umbrella pines, palm trees and olive groves. You can admire the harbour and the incredible views and stroll across Préconil Bridge, an architectural masterpiece linking Sainte-Maxime to Grimaud or Saint-Tropez.

Relaxing on One of Sainte-Maxime’s Beaches
An essential part of your camping holiday in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur: the beach. Sainte-Maxime boasts 6fine sand beaches spanning 6kilometres. Take in the beaches of La Nartelle, La Madrague, Les Éléphants, La Garonnette and Luc Provensal in the town centre as you swim. And don’t forget La Croisette Beach, with magnificent views of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, and Sardinaux Beach. At the foot of the Pointe des Sardinaux peninsula, it is known as “Little Corsica”, a reference to its authenticity and preserved nature.
Unlike Saint-Tropez, whose beaches are full to bursting, Sainte-Maxime’s beaches are less busy and quieter. For even more privacy, we recommend a visit to the town’s charming little coves near Pointe de Sardinaux.
Lush Botanical Gardens
For a welcome break from the heat during your stay at our campsite, don’t miss the Myrtes Botanical Garden. This park, which faces the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, includes species typical of the French Riviera such as arbutus, myrtle and rockrose, as well as more exotic plants such as Chilean coconut palms.
Stroll along the marked path and relax in the shade of the umbrella pines and holm oaks.
Hiking Along the Mediterranean Coastline
If you’re looking for an active way to explore Sainte-Maxime, go hiking. There are a number of trails along the coast, inviting you to discover the local flora and fauna.
Take the Deffend Trail, for example, which offers 360° views of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez and the Esterel Mountains. You can also take a walk along the Maures Mountains or the Pointe des Sardinaux, enjoying the unique views and glimpses of the Alps.
Culture in the City’s Museums
If you love culture, include the Tour Carrée Museum in your camping holiday! You’ll discover folk art such as traditional costumes and handicrafts. A great opportunity to immerse yourself in the history and culture of this commune in the Var!
Continue your cultural visit at the Museum of Phonography and Mechanical Music. This exhibition recounts the history of musical instruments and devices that have revolutionised the world (cameras, typewriters, etc.). Finally, before heading back to the campsite, finish your cultural tour with a visit to the Carré de Sainte-Maxime, a venue offering a variety of shows, concerts and events throughout the year for adults and children alike.
Route des Mimosas
Sainte-Maxime is on the Route des Mimosas. If you’re planning a trip to the region at the beginning of February, it’s a good time to visit the Mimosa Festival!
This flower festival, which also goes through other Provençal towns such as Bormes-les-Mimosas and Grasse, is a gorgeous spectacle every year. Dozens of colourful floral floats parade past spectators to the rhythm of music, to the delight of all ages!
